About

History

The Department of Economics was initiated in 1954 as a separate department, for B.A General Courses, affiliated from Bihar University. Later in 1960, It came under the Jurisdiction of Ranchi University, followed by Kolhan University, Chaibasa 2009. B.A Honours Course was started in 1972. Further M.A.Course was started in 1984.

Academics

The department currently offers B.A. General & Honours courses & M.A.Course in Economics in CBCS Semester system. Since 2022, we have initiated the Four Year Under Graduate Program (FYUGP), as per the New Education Policy (NEP-2020). In addition, our faculty members are actively involved in supervising the Ph. D. Scholars of Kolhan University.

Research

The department is actively involved in research in Monetary Economics,Industrial growth in Jharkhand, Impact of Globalisation on Indian Economy and recent development in secondary and tertiary sector.
The Department offers specialisation in various research methods including data interpretation,statistical tools and field work for collection of data
