History

The Department of Zoology was initiated in 1954 as a separate department, for B. Sc. General Courses, affiliated from Bihar University. Later in 1960, It came under the Jurisdiction of Ranchi University, followed by Kolhan University, Chaibasa 2009. B. Sc. Honours Course was started in 1972. Further M. Sc. Zoology Course was started in 1984.

Academics

The department currently offers B. Sc. General & Honours courses & M. Sc. Zoology Course in Zoology in CBCS Semester system. Since 2022, we have initiated the Four Year Under Graduate Program (FYUGP), as per the New Education Policy (NEP-2020).
In addition, our faculty members are actively involved in supervising the Ph. D. Scholars of Kolhan University.

Research

The department is actively involved in research across frontier areas of Zoology that involve both fundamental and applied sciences including interdisciplinary avenues. We perform active research spanning the complexities of
